Cargo Theft
Larsen AVR Group is on retainer to conduct cargo theft
investigations on behalf of a risk assessment company whose clients include
long-haul trucking companies. We work closely with federal, state and local law
enforcement personnel who participate in cargo theft task forces, and our
investigative efforts have resulted in the recovery of stolen cargo ranging from
consumer electronic products to tobacco products worth several million dollars.
In addition, our efforts have
identified truck drivers who were complicit in the thefts as well as
drivers who used and were under the influence of illegal substances
while operating tractor/trailer rigs.

A
hijacking in the desert. One day, in
the early morning hours, an interstate truck loaded with $2 million
in tobacco products was nearing its destination, a rural warehouse
in Southern California, when it was forced to stop on a road blocked
due to construction. Suddenly, several men emerged from the shadows,
assaulted the drivers with pepper spray, then handcuffed and threw
them in the back of the truck. The hijackers drove around the area,
then released the drivers on the side of the road before driving the
truck away. Larsen AVR Group was called right away and, working with law
enforcement, was able to determine, first, that the drivers themselves
were not involved in the robbery. Surveilling the area of the
hijacking, we quickly located a trailer parked behind a
warehouse and placed it under surveillance. Later that same day, when
the trailer was moved to another location, we
followed it, and, again working with law enforcement, seized the trailer
and arrested the men in the process of unloading the stolen
merchandise, solving the crime on the same day of the hijacking.
